Pediatric Ophthalmology

TrachtmanChildren’s Eye Care of the Lehigh Valleyis the pediatric and adult motility section of our practice.  We have created a fun and comforting atmosphere for our younger patients, to put them at ease and allow a complete thorough exam.  Ocular disorders, some which may not be obvious, can be identified and treated, even in the first days of life.  Children experience a variety of eye problems, many quite distinct and unique from those seen in adults. Pediatric Ophthalmologists undergo special training to identify and manage these. Pediatric ophthalmologists are qualified to manage ocular problems using glasses,medication, and eye surgery. 

Disorders commonly seen in Pediatricour practice include:

  • Refractive Errors (Nearsightedness, Farsightedness, Astigmatism), Routine Exams
    Infections (Conjunctivitis, Cellulitis)
  • Blocked Tear Ducts
  • Strabismus (Misalignment of the eyes including inward, outward, upward and downward types)
  • Amblyopia (also known as “Lazy Eye”)
  • Ptosis (drooping of the Eyelids)
  • Retinopathy of Prematurity
  • Congenital malformations, Genetic Disorders
  • Ocular Tumors
  • Visual Developmental Delays
  • Pediatric Cataracts, Pediatric Glaucoma
  • Eye Screening for Diabetes Mellitus and Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis

We also specialize in the treatment of Adult ocular misalignments and double vision.  Treatments include identifying the many possible underlying causes, which may include thyroid eye muscle disease, vascular insufficiency and myasthenia gravis.  Therapies can include optical corrections, prisms, and eye muscle surgery.
